Abstract

Since it has been established that nonionizing electromagnetic radiation (NER) produces biological effects, many experimental studies have been undertaken to elucidate the modes, causes, and bioeffect mechanism(s) of NER fields. NER fields, in general, and radiofrequencies and microwaves, in particular, were suggested to cause biological effects by heating, and thereby inducing molecular disorganization into bio-systems; these effects have been found to depend on field strength, frequency, pulse shape, type of modulation, magnetic intensity, and length of exposure (1–7). Based on phantom model radiofrequency and microwave resonance absorption and NER-induced heating, attempts have been made to elucidate NER biointeractions and heat-induced bioeffect mechanism(s) (2).
