Abstract

Background The present time is characterized by intensive development of production, export and domestic consumption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Russia. However, this process is not fully provided with domestic regulatory and technical documentation and calculation methods. To ensure fire and industrial safety, the formation of qualitative and quantitative indicators of risk, its assessment, in particular, the sea transportation of LNG requires experience, analysis of the accident rate of LNG tankers. Due to the lack of sufficient practical domestic experience in this industry, the article analyzes the accident rate of foreign LNG tankers for 50 years of their operation. Aims and Objectives Systematization of the reasons of accidents of tankers, bound and unbound spill of LNG, the distribution of accidents by category of origin and depending on the design of tankers and tanks, the calculation of the frequency of accidents and the analysis of their dynamics arise. Results A method of obtaining initial data for the subsequent assessment of risks during sea transportation of LNG has been developed.
