Abstract

Objective To analyse the causes of wet packets among instruments sets packed by nonwoven fabrics after pulsing vacuum pressure steam sterilization in our hospital and then take measures to reduce the production of wet packets. Methods According to the recorded causes of 106 wet packets among instruments sets packed by disposable non-woven fabrics after sterilization in the recent 4 years in our hospital,87 wet packets caused by placing instruments sets in different locations of sterilizer and 19 wet packets caused by factors such as volume, weight and packing method of instruments sets as well as environmental factors, the wet packets were classified and the underlying causes of wet packets were analysed and solutions for improving this situation were raised. Results Among 87 wet packets,24.2% were caused by the malfunction of sterilizer,40.2% were caused by the structural features of instruments or defects in packed medical appliances and 35.6% by the defects in the loading of sterilization. While among 19 wet packets,78.9% were caused by the volume, weight of instruments sets and defects in the packing method and 21.1% by environmental factors. Conclusions We should strengthen the monitoring and maintenance of sterilizer, improve the sense of responsibility of relevant staff, standardize the packing method of instruments sets and pay attention to the environmental factors which will contribute to the production of wet packets. Then we can take effective measures and finally reduce the incidence rate of wet packets.
