Abstract

India is the country which is called the land of the golden soil, and agriculture is a key industry. It comprises of about 13.7% of the annual GDP of the country. But recently in our country, we have been hearing reports of suicide attempts by farmers which is due to poverty. Agriculture faces a severe reduction in the production in off-seasons of crops due to this; many farmers turn towards other sources of income, i.e., animal husbandry. But the loss of even single cattle sometimes turns out to be a matter of survival for a farmer. This is because any animal prone to any disease is treated at the very last stage on the appearance of the symptoms which results in loss of the animal. This paper presents the detail of a proposed health monitoring system which is dedicated to prevent this situation and to help the farmer raise the livestock without any loss and is aimed to detect the infected cattle and resulting in the required treatment to cure the disease hence reducing the loss and increasing the gain out of the animal husbandry. In the proposed system, a wireless body area network device is created to measure the heart rate, body temperature and sleep patterns of the livestock using the appropriate sensors which help to detect the health of the cattle and hence report back any fluctuations in the readings taken to the farmer using GSM Module. The main interfacing board used for this is Arduino Uno programming board. The paper presents the design, the simulation tests of the sensors individually and collectively and also the overall test results of the system.
