Abstract

The cationic homopolymerization of 2,4,4-trimethyl-2-oxazoline using BF3Et2O as initiator at different initiator concentrations, temperatures, times and solvents of polymerization were carried out. The effect of these variables on the polymerization yield and viscosity of the polymers were studied. Polymers were characterized by IR.1H NMR and13C NMR which support that the polymerization reaction occurs by ring opening of oxazoline through oxazolinium intermediates.
