Abstract

A newly synthesized metal–organic framework material, designated as {[Cu(Bimb)3]∙(H2O)2∙2I}n(1),was produced by synthesizing through a solvothermal process, where (Bimb) 1,4-bis[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzene and CuI were involved. Crystal properties were meticulously characterized using advanced techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Single crystal X-ray Diffraction (SCXRD), Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) and Elemental Mapping. These analyses showed a strong three-dimensional coordination framework with exceptional thermal and structural stability. Furthermore, luminescence experiments carried out on (1) displays its exceptional capacity for sensing Triethylamine (TEA) and 2,4-Dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) to the LOD of 3.16 × 10−6 M (0.319 ppm) and 4.6 × 10−7 M (0.084 ppm) respectively. Furthermore, a study conducted on (1), demonstrated that it possesses an outstanding photocatalytic degradation of Rose Bengal (96.72 %,), Methyl Violet (88.23 %,), and Bisphenol B (88.35 %), dyesrespectively. This indicates that (1) has a significant potential to address environmental contamination concerns due to the sensing and photocatalytic properties that it possesses.
