Abstract

We study first the changes and the stabilities in the political and religious (catholic) evolution in rural western France. Then we focus on the transformations of rural Catholicism in an area with strong religious traditions, through Limerzel, a village in Britanny. Starting from a Catholicism of the XVth-XVIth century type, monarchist at the end of XIXth, we move towards a new kind, first adapted to democracy and modernism, and more recently to secularization and pluralism (partly socialist). Political behavoiral patterns were very linked to ethic and religious patterns : they are not so now.
