Abstract
This paper reviews cathodes for high current density electron beams. It describes the following types of emitters: oxide, dispenser, LaB6, IrCe. Photo and ferroelectric cathodes are presented briefly. Current density from the cathodes, their lifetimes, some features due to the cathode surface properties and influence on the beam of filament magnetic field are discussed.
