Abstract
In the title compound, [CdI2(C12H8N2)]n, the CdII ion is six-coordinate and has a distorted octahedral geometry. All the I atoms act as bridging ligands. Adjacent Cd coordination polyhedra share I⋯I edges, thus giving rise to a polymeric chain along the c axis. The CdII ion and the phenanthroline ligand are positioned on a twofold axis.
