Abstract

On page 3250, R. Zhao, H. Lee, S.-g. Kim, and co-workers show a simultaneous improvement of the electrical and mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers via infiltration and direct insulation-to-conduction transformation of adhesive polydopamine (PDA). Infiltrated PDA plays an important role as an adhesive polymer, which increases the inter-CNT binding strength, and is later converted to a conductive, graphitic adhesive by pyrolysis. This property conversion of PDA increases both the mechanical strength and the electrical conductivity of the CNT fibers.
