Abstract

RECENT observations have indicated that reserpine can depress not only 5-hydroxytryptamine, but also noradrenaline- and adrenaline-levels in brain, heart, spleen and other sympathetically innervated tissues1–3. The depletion of adrenal medullary hormones by single doses of reserpine has been attributed to a stimulation of centres in the central nervous system, since spinal transection at T 1 is reported to prevent this response1.
