Abstract

AbstractNowadays, many laser material applications are driven by pulsed laser systems providing a broad range of laser parameters. Laser processing like marking, drilling, cutting or advanced surface structuring are using lasers with less than a micro‐ down to femtosecond pulse durations and pulse energies from micro‐ to millijoule. Process speed is driven by the laser's repetition rate covering the range from single pulse up to megahertz rates. The variety of laser parameters motivates for flexible laser system architectures in which optical amplifiers play a core role in scaling the lasers pulse energy. This article will give an overview of optical amplifier technologies and concepts for a flexible configuration of laser parameters.
