Abstract

In this article, we put the catharsis category present in the aesthetics and works related to the aesthetics of Gyorgy Lukacs, as well as in the educational works that integrate historical-critical pedagogy. Our goal was to show the extent to which catharsis and the other elements intrinsic to it, when analyzed aesthetically and pedagogically, contribute to the formation of individuality towards more effective humanization. The analyzes proposed here sought to establish important approaches between art and school education as active and indispensable in the development of human individuality. The technique adopted for the present study was bibliographic research, in which we used Lukacs' aesthetic work and other studies on it as main sources, in addition to those located within the scope of historical-critical pedagogy. We found that catharsis acts directly in the process of constituting a more universal individuality, since it promotes a qualitative leap in understanding and critical analysis of reality, being the highlight of pedagogical work.
