Abstract

We here report the case of a 21-year old female patient with no particular past medical history presenting with decreased visual acuity in both eyes that had progressed since birth. Best-corrected visual acuity was 1/10 in the right eye and 4/10 in the left eye. Intraocular pressure was normal. Slit lamp examination (biomicroscopy) revealed flower petals-shaped cataract in the right eye with slight posterior subcapsular cataract and nuclear cataract grade 1 and progressive left subcapsular cataract. Fundus examination was normal. The patient underwent phacoemulsification of the right eye. No complication occurred. The patient had a simple postoperative course and corrected visual acuity improved to 7/10. The impact of congenital cataract on visual acuity varies according to the type of cataract.
