Abstract

1. The type Y zeolite, with SiO2/Al2O3 = 4.4, exhibits catalytic activity in the reaction for the disproportionation of the CH3 group of toluene after replacing ∼50% of the Na+ ions by Ca2+, and ∼25% by Nd3+. 2. The Ca-Nd forms of zeolite Y are highly active catalysts for this reaction. The samples, obtained by the successive exchange of Na+ in NaY first by Nd3+, and then by Ca2+, are superior in their activity and stability to the samples that were prepared by simultaneous exchange. 3. The activity of the catalyst does not change, while the stability increases when a part of the Nd3+ cations in zeolite NdNaY is replaced by Ca2+. 4. The catalytic activity of CaNdNaY increases under the influence of CO2, which can be used to estimate the contribution made by ions of various natures to the activity of these zeolites.
