Abstract

Cr-modified ZSM-5 molecular sieve catalysts were prepared by the methods of hydrothermal technique [Cr-ZSM-5(H)], ion-exchange [Cr-ZSM-5(E)] and impregnation [Cr-ZSM-5(I)], the catalytic performance of the prepared catalysts in the process of isoamyl alcohol to isovaleric acid was investigated, and their physicochemical properties were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, BET, SEM and TG. The results showed that the catalyst Cr-ZSM-5(H) exhibited higher activity with isoamyl alcohol conversion of 44.97%, isovaleric acid selectivity of 78.78% and isovaleric acid yield of 35.43%, superior to Cr-ZSM-5(E) and Cr-ZSM-5(I), because of its suitable pore diameter, slower deposition rate, and more Cr-incorporation.
