Abstract

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering spectra indicate catalytic formation of SO 3 2− on the surface of Ag powder exposed to SO 2 gas in a He atmosphere. Thermal desorption as SO 2 and oxidation to S0 4 2− were detected and followed spectroscopically as the temperature was slowly raised to 108°C in an O 2-containing atmosphere.
