Abstract

A surface segregation model was developed and surface analytical results obtained to explain the oxygen consumption reaction in an Ni/MH battery using TiNi alloy as the negative electrode. In the light of molecular orbital theory, a coordinate action in a σ-π electron donor-acceptor coordinative bond is discussed to explain the high catalytic activity of metallic clusters of nickel atoms.
