Abstract
Under dynamic conditions of thin-film oxidation, the susceptibility of base oils to varnish formation (at temperatures from 290 to 350°C is strongly influenced by the catalytic action of the metal surface on which the varnish is formed; for MK-22 oil and MS-20 (Groznyi) oil, steel has a greater catalytic effect than aluminum, while for SU machine oil and D-11 (Baku) the reverse is true, so that the varnish formation on aluminum is considerably more severe.
