Abstract

Iron-doped Zinc oxide, synthesized using wet chemical technique, was employed to degrade a commonly used textile dye namely Reactive Golden Yellow dye CRL in order to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of the catalyst towards degradation. The degradation efficiency was evaluated by studying the effects of parameters like initial dye concentration (0.05-0.25mg), catalyst amount (0.1-1.0g), temperature (25-100°C), pH (1-14) and contact time (10-120min). The percentage degradation was calculated from residual concentration spectrophotometrically. It was found that optimum degradation was obtained using 0.5g of the catalyst and maintaining temperature and pH at 85oC and 5, respectively for the contact time of 60min.
