Catalytic Asymmetric Aryl Transfer Reactions to Aldehydes with Grignard Reagents as the Aryl Source

Abstract

Power of added titanium: Aryl Grignard reagents can be used in asymmetric aryl transfer to aldehydes by using a 3-(3,5-diphenylphenyl)-H8-BINOL-derived titanium(IV) catalyst in the presence of excess titanium tetraisopropoxide (see scheme). The reaction proceeds with a low catalyst loading (2 mol %) and exhibits high enantioselectivity. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”.
