Abstract

GEL-LIKE KU-2 sulpho-cation-exchange resin is widely used in petroleum chemitsry as a catalyst in alkylation of phenol with olefms. In this field i t has almost replaced sulphuric acid and benzene-sulphonic acid previously used as catalysts, because of a number of advantages, particularly selectivity in respect of the formation of mono-alkylphenols. Having regard for the mechanism of catalytic action of KU-2 scientists, of course, tried to explain the causes accounting for the predominant formation of mono-alkylpheno]s.
