Abstract
The synthesis of π-allyl palldium (II) compounds, [PdCl(C n H 2 n —1 )] 2 from olefins and PdCl 2 under mild conditions is described. The mechanism of the reaction and the role of the solvent are discussed with reference to some aspects of the catalytic activity of palladium (II) salts in non-aqueous solvents. The behaviour of PtCl 2 under similar reaction conditions is compared with that of PdCl 2 .
