Abstract

The BBC’s family drama Merlin and Starz’s racy Camelot offer similar narratives for female characters, especially Morgan(a) and Guinevere. By playing with traditional plots and casting, Merlin and Camelot tap into passionate attachments viewers have for powerful female television characters, yet preserve traditional notions about women’s place in Arthurian society.
