Abstract

Nozzle pressing single full rapid solidification process was devised. The feature of this process is that a strip is slightly pressed by the front tip of the nozzle at the low load. Movable nozzle is used and the nozzle trails strip thickness, so the strip doesn't stick between nozzle and roll. Pressing load is very small (80N/m), so tinere is no scratch on the nozzle contacting surface of the strip. Thin strip of A1-12 mass%Si the thickimss of which is about 0.2 mm can be cast at the speed of 12m/s from melt directly by this process. The condition of the strip surface and the thickness distribution are improved by the nozzle-pressing. Ejection angle of the molten is set at 30°, so that back break of the molten metal doesn't happen. Micro structure is same as ordinary rapidly solidified roll cast strip, and cooling rate measured by DAS (Dendrite Arm Spacing) is about 103∼105°C C/s.
