Abstract

Fantasy makeup is a domain of fashion and beauty, in which art works are being created on a living human body by adding artistry to art makeup and fashion. It is more than just art and beauty, exceeding simple functions and techniques. In addition, it requires a lot of efforts to generate creative design under a new theme and utilize diverse materials. Fantasy makeup is a required event in cosmetology competitions which help makeup artists build pride, develop their skills and creativity and take part in social activities. Unlike other events, it does not present any standard manual so that the level of contestants’ skills and competency varies significantly. This study analyzed the winning designs of Daegu International Body-painting Festival which has made a big contribution to the production of great makeup artists who have exceeded their limit and developed theories to strengthen the artistic aspects of fantasy makeup and analyzing its diverse images. As a result, with the application of diverse expression techniques and mixed use of creative objets, artists’ thoughts have been reflected on their works gradually without limitations. Thanks to interactions between variation of painting and objet effects, it was able to create 3D hybrid images by expressing expanded expression forms, escaping from 1- or 2-dimensional reproducibility.
