Abstract
ABSTRACT In 2000, city residents of Wichita Falls, Texas, who were members of a church sought removal of the two children’s books Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy’s Roommate from the children’s section of the public library due to the books’ depiction of homosexuality, eventually leading to the federal court case Sund v. City of Wichita Falls, Texas. Using an in-depth case study approach and going beyond a review of the court documents, the author uses qualitative interviews with individuals connected to the court case to gather more in-depth information regarding events surrounding this case of censorship in public libraries and investigate the phenomenon of librarians acting as censors themselves.
