Abstract

The author presents a number of notable cases involving animal rights in Brazil in recent years. These cases include typical competitions involving bulls, horses and cowboys, the ban on the marketing of foie gras in the city of Sao Paulo, the rescue of beagles from an animal testing lab, the shared custody of a dog, and the first time in history that a writ of habeas corpus was granted to an animal, a chimp called Cecilia.
