Abstract

Seismic imaging problems in three subsalt areas in offshore Louisiana, Gulf of Mexico, were studied using raytrace modeling. The areas modeled included projects in Ship Shoal, South Timbalier, and Grand Isle. Simulated 3-D surveys oriented in various directions (N-S, E-W, NE-SW, and SW-NE) were raytraced over computer models to better comprehend the illumination variations under salt. The raypaths were sorted into reflection point gathers, simulating the effects of 3-D prestack depth migration.
