Abstract

AbstractDigital radiography is an advanced and a powerful Non-destructive Testing (NDT) technology for investigation of internal details of an object. It is used to obtain two-dimensional or three-dimensional images depending on testing needs for defect detection, dimensional measurement, evaluation of structural integrity, failure analysis, etc. In this paper, the effective uses of digital radiographic imaging modalities in structural integrity assessment and failure analysis of industrial components are discussed. The digital methods considered are computed radiography using phosphor imaging plates and digital radiography using flat panel detector. A few cases for nuclear applications are discussed to highlight the usefulness of the modalities.KeywordsNon-destructive testing (NDT)Digital radiographic imagingPhosphor imaging plateFlat panel detector
