Abstract

This chapter presents case studies of how community assets, strategies, and agents described in the previous two chapters can be mobilized in concert to build and transform communities. It includes (1) a comparison of three policies for addressing concentrated poverty in communities, (2) promising policies and practices to address chronic homelessness, (3) multi-pronged approaches to health and safety issues such as smoking, substance abuse, and obesity, (4) school choice strategies, and (5) collective impact, a collaborative approach to address community challenges. The chapter concludes with a brief analysis of a successful community-based campaign in Minnesota.
