Abstract

Neurofibromas may present within an inherited complex (von Recklinghausen's disease) or sporadically [1]. Both forms may present with orthopaedic problems, the commonest being scoliosis, pseudarthrosis and periosteal or intramedullary cystic change [2]. In addition, malignant transformation of neurofibromas may occur. We present the case of a 22-year-old female who had no family history or clinical evidence of von Recklinghausen's disease where a periosteal neurofibroma mimicked an osteochondroma on plain radiography.
