Abstract

We describe a case of china gallbladder here, together with a literally review on the cases reported so far in Japan. The case was a female of 55 years old with the chief complaints of nausea and vomiting. At the hospitalization, no abnormality was seen except a mild tenderness at the right hypochondrium. No blood biochemical abnormality was seen. By means of an abdominal plain roentgenography, an image of almost ellipspoidal clear bordered striate calcification was observed at the right upper abdomen. In a DIC, the gallbladder was not contrasted and in a CT, the wall of gallbladder exhibited an image of a hypertrophied doughunt like calcification. From the above findings, it was diagnosed as a china gallbladder and operation was performed. The gallbladder was grayish white, atrophied, extremely hard and the inside was filled with gallstones. In a histopathological examination, no malignant finding was seen. Including this case, a total of 194 cases of china gallbladder have been reported. Generally, the incidence is high in aged women and many of them (56.6%) complained of pain and visited the hospitals. In most of the cases, diagnoses were easily made means of abdominal plain roentgenographies and CTs. However, since the diseases was often complicated with gallbladder cancer as high as 13.4% and the complication of cancer of digestive organ was also observed, it is important to make an exclusive preoperative examination and regardless of its intensity, to give a positive treatment.
