Abstract

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common condition that is generally regarded as benign, however specific sub-types can lead to serious events. Arrhythmic mitral valve prolapse (AMVP) is an important sub-type for clinicians to screen as it is a significant cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young adults. AMVP hallmark imaging features include fibrosis of papillary muscles and inferobasal LV free wall. Cardiac MRI and/or electrophysiological (EP) studies allow for identification of these features and provide a promising non-invasive tool for risk stratification.
