Abstract

Extensive loss of tooth enamel is common in patients with bulimia. Improving their aesthetic appearance often enhances their self-esteem. It would be important for any dietitian working with this patient to reinforce the preventive dental therapy that was prescribed by the prosthodontist. To avert further tooth enamel erosion, the patient was advised to avoid brushing immediately after vomiting, but to use a bicarbonate rinse and to floss daily. To make the teeth more resistant to acid dissolution, a neutral pH sodium fluoride gel was prescribed for daily home use.
