Abstract

Cassia Field, located 35 miles off the south-east coast of Trinidad, is the island's largest producer of gas. Production during December 1988 totalled 12.6 million barrels of condensate and 559 billion cu ft of gas. Ultimate recovery is estimated to be 21 million barrels of condensate and 1097 billion cu ft of gas. The sediments offshore south-east Trinidad are an extension of the Eastern Venezuelan Basin which is flanked to the north by the Araya-Paria metamorphic terrain and associated fold belts and to the south by the Guiana shield. Interpretations of gravity data indicates the basin has up to 40,000 ft of sedimentary section. Estimated cumulative production from offshore east Trinidad is 590 million barrels of oil and 2.3 trillion cu ft of gas.
