Abstract

Presentation of CaseA 27-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of headache, confusion, and a possible seizure.He was well until five months earlier, when acute myelomonocytic leukemia was found. After induction a complete remission was achieved after the administration of cytarabine (cytosine arabinoside [araC]) and asparaginase in high doses. The patient's course was complicated by prolonged neutropenia, an intermittent high fever, questionable allergy to piperacillin, klebsiella sepsis, mild renal failure, pancreatitis, and mild adult respiratory distress syndrome.
