Abstract

There has always been a constant effort towards minimization of compressor stages for weight reduction. The emergence of low aspect ratio blades saw a renewal of interest in tandem blading to increase the blade loading furthe r, besides improving its off-design performance characteristics. The paper evaluates aerodynamic performance of three assorted cascades of single and tandem blades under varying angle of attack and variable camber mode. Fundamental investigation into the high deflection capability of tandem cascades has been carried out in a low speed cascad e tunnel. Methods to improve the off- design performance using variable camber mode in tandem blades have been evaluated.
