Abstract

Casanova today (1960-1979). Casanova studies were renewed twenty years ago by the efforts of J. Rives Childs and by the first appearance of the original text of the Histoire de ma vie. The text of the Memoirs is still however mishandled by editors (rewritings and selections) despite the efforts of Casanova scholars to bring out serious editions and to make known some other works of the Venetian. Research on Casanova, which is very active, remains essentially historical and biographical though people are beginning to be interested in the writer and his ideas. His works have still, however, not acquired the place they deserve in eighteenth-oentury research as a whole.
