Abstract
An example of correspondence in Nahuatl, produced by ordinary people during the 16th. and 17th. centuries, is offered here. This letter, preserved at the Archivo General de la Nación, México, included in Ramo de Jesuitas, is addressed to Viceroy Luis de Velasco, the Second, a few years before the end of the 16th. Century. The natives of Yohuallan (Iguala, in present-day State of Guerrero) express their concern as rumors have reached them about the imminent appointment of a miner as corregidor of Yohuallan. León-Portilla, to whom the paleography and translation of this document are due, points out the cultural and linguistic importance of communications like the present one.
