Abstract

This paper considers the problem of vehicle platooning in AHS (automated highway systems). The previous reported relative navigation system is applied to vehicle platooning which is designed for formation flight. In this system, GPS plays an important role in not only positioning but also keeping safety with the desired spacing between a preceding vehicle and a following vehicle. In order to prevent collision of GPS outage, MMWR (millimeter-wave radar) is used. Simulations for the platoon consisted of four vehicles on the highway are presented to illustrate the applied relative navigation system.
