Abstract

AbstractThe fruit anatomical structure of 27 species of Peucedanum, Lefebvrea, and Physotrichia, distributed in Tropical Africa, has been described on the basis of 23 carpoanatomical characters. By carpological affinity five groups have been distinguished. The considerable diversity in fruit structure within Peucedanum s. ampl. has been revealed, but only a little correlation between our carpological groups and the sections established by ENGLER (1921) and NORMAN (1934) has been observed. The taxonomic revision of African Peucedanum species and related taxa is clearly needed.
