Abstract

Indian carpet industry plays an important role in protecting our heritage, art, culture, skill, etc and at the same time earns more foreign exchange, provides employment opportunities, etc. The main objectives of this paper are to measure the average as well as compound annual growth rate of India's Carpet export and India's total export and also to examine the acceleration/deceleration in growth during the period 1996–2015 by using Semi Log Linear Regression Model and Semi Log Non-Linear Regression Model. The study relies on secondary data compiled from various published sources. It is found that that the compound annual growth rate is slightly higher as compare to the average annual growth in both the cases case (i.e., India's Carpet export and India's total export) during the overall period as well as all the four sub periods. Further, the performance of India's carpet export and India's total export is fluctuating during the study period. Indian government has to take an active part in promoting and improving Indian Carpet export's share in India's total export figures.
