Abstract

Elucidating the biological processes that drive asymptomatic plaque to become symptomatic is important for the development of therapeutics to stabilize carotid plaque and prevent stroke. Given that extracellular vesicle (EV)-derived microRNAs (miRNA) mediate cellular communication, we hypothesized that their cargo will differ in symptomatic versus asymptomatic plaque and play a role in plaque instability.
