Abstract
A prospective, observational, single-center study was performed from March 2015 to September 2018. In 41 patients (75% symptomatic), who had undergone carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA), ocular blood flow, as measured by laser speckle flowgraphy, had significantly increased on the operated side but not on the nonoperated side. More than one half of the patients reported subjective visual improvement on the operated side. CEA can successfully reverse visual dysfunction caused by chronic ocular ischemia resulting from carotid artery stenosis by increasing ocular blood flow.
