Methods Clinical data of patients who received carotid artery stenting for severe carotid stenosis with contralateral carotid occlusion in our department were retrospectively collected and analyzed. There were no myocardial infarction and death but 1 stroke during postoperative 30 days. Nineteen patients were followed-up with a mean time of 22(6~48) months and only 1 moderate in stent restenosis were found by duplex ultrasonography. Conclusions Carotid artery stenting is safe and effective for patients who had severe carotid stenosis with contralateral carotid occlusion, but attention should be paid to prevent and manage complications.
