Abstract

In 1975, administrators of Houston Independent School District, Houston Public Library and several other City of Houston departments met to discuss the cooperative planning of an educational complex. The complex involved the Carnegie Branch Library, John Marshall High School, Jefferson Davis High School, Houston Community College and a park site. After successful bond elections in 1976 by both the School District and the City, a master plan for the complex was developed. This resulted in the renovation of Davis, a new Marshall, and a new Carnegie serving both schools under contract and leasing space to the Community College.
