Abstract

Daniel Fabre, Carlo Levi in the Land of Time. ? Christ stopped in Eboli presents itself as an evocation of a village society abstracted from History and from linear time ; a declara tion of principles which was widely discussed in Italy. In fact, Carlo Levi's work treats the social diversity of ? durations ? and, in doing so, underlines the confrontation of time scales that are at the center of all ethnographic experience. But this project for understanding and the text which reports it have a common model : the novel-like story, as in Stendhal. Here, ? times ? deploy their volume, are enriched with properties, become peculiar beings whose differences, because they are linked to other social mores, are ? good to think ?.
