In Reply. —I agree with Dr Levinson. Caring for the poor is a shared duty of our professions and the government. If all lawyers and physicians devoted 50 hours to the poor per year, there would still be unmet needs. In law, a major problem is that the Legal Services Corporation has had flat funding, at an inadequate $305 million, for the last three years. The American Bar Association has provided the strongest support for the Legal Services Corporation and will continue to do so. Dr Weaver's letter embodies the kind of selfish attitude that the editorial was designed to address. I myself have worked with the poor and gone into housing projects; none of these people asked to be poor, uneducated, retarded, or born to alcoholic or addicted parents.
