Abstract
The roads in the Federal Republic of Germany have reached their limits, with traffic bottlenecks and delays causing unduly high costs and friction. This paper discusses CargoCap that perhaps represents the fifth transportation alternative to the traditional transportation systems. CargoCap, a research project in Germany, is devised as an independent and efficient transportation system, fulfilling operational profitability demands that can easily be expanded. The basic concept of CargoCap is the transportation of packaged goods via an underground pipeline system. The system can be set up quickly in technical terms without violating public interest and coordinating with traditional transportation systems and logistics concepts without any problems.
